For the Love of Poo
Human feces, Swarovski crystals, and flies
40 x 40 cm
2011- ongoing
For the Love of Poo is a response to Damien Hirst’s diamond skull, For the Love of God. Covering my own feces with Swarovski crystals, I equally use human residue, in this case, fresh and immediate, to display a scene of metamorphoses and decay.
In practice of the Abject, the female bodily function and action of producing the base material are highlighted for public examination and discussion.
In tandem, the remarkable case of animal cannibalism transpired inside of the sealed glass container as two weeks into the exhibition, three flies hatched and eventually ate one of their siblings for survival.
The work generated an ecosystem and still continues to do so in a storage space in London.
